ZULI
Ahmed El Ghazoly aka ZULI is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and sound design artist from Cairo who is intrinsic to the rise of Egypt’s underground electronic music scene. Together with Asem Tag ($$$TAG$$$), ZULI co-headed Cairo’s alternative music venue and club, VENT, from 2013-2015, before transforming their project into a namesake club night and festival. ZULI released his debut EP “Bionic Ahmed” with Lee Gamble’s UIQ label, following up with his “Numbers” EP on UIQ and then onto another playfully unconventional release “Trigger Finger” for Haunter Records which has received critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, FACT and The Wire. His debut LP for UIQ “Terminal” - sees him broadening out his work on previous EPs into something more exploratory and personal. The project evokes localised environments and features photography from his local zones in Cairo. Musically with “Terminal”, ZULI’s focus moves away from the dance-floor towards more cinematic territories.
